The northern coast of Culebra Island is home to Flamenco Beach, a stunning horseshoe-shaped enclave surrounded by a wildlife refuge and one of the world’s best beaches.

The quality of the crystal-clear waters bathing Icacos Island, opposite the eastern coast of Fajardo, is simply unsurpassable. Part of the La Cordillera Natural Reserve, this small island’s rich biodiversity makes it ideal for snorkelling.

Domes Beach, between the lighthouse in Rincón and a long-inactive nuclear reactor, is a great surfing destination in Puerto Rico, especially during winter months.

The waves at Jobos Beach, one of Isabela’s most scenic stretches, in the island’s northwest, make it a surfing paradise. Because it is so shallow, it also offers excellent conditions for swimming.

Part of the Guánica Biosphere Reserve, Aurora Island (also known as ‘Gilligan’s Island’) in southwest Puerto Rico is the perfect destination for a family excursion. The number of daily visitors is limited, so make sure you arrive early.

The golden beach of the La Monserrate Spa in Luquillo, on the island’s east coast, contrasts with the deep green of El Yunque National Forest, which can be seen from the beach.

Sun Bay, the most famous beach in Vieques, offers a wonderful natural landscape with white sands, crystal clear waters and plant life. It’s located on the south of this small island. Image by NickSpinder / Shutterstock

The uninhabited Caja de Muertos Island near Ponce is home to the most popular beaches for families. It’s often visited by locals with their own boats.

Crash Boat, the most popular beach in Aguadilla, is perfect for swimming, snorkeling and surfing (in winter). Diving spot El Natural, with its reef full of marine life, is only a few minutes away.
