1 Menorca
Travel to Spain’s easternmost island, a paradisiacal enclave of nature, from 5,000 Avios each way. A Biosphere Reserve since 1993, Menorca offers infinite beach days in places such as Cala Pilar, a pristine space of golden sand and reddish rock formations all round. The more adventurous types can visit Monte Toro, the highest point in Menorca and a starting point for hiking trails offering incredible views of the entire island. Alternatively, join archaeological expeditions in ancient settlements, with Talayotic monuments that were declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco just nine months ago, including the Naveta of Es Tudons. In addition, the Ciutadella de Menorca –with its mediaeval streets – and Mahón offer the best of traditional gastronomy.

With daily flights throughout the summer from 5,000 Avios each way, Almería is one of the perfect destinations for a family getaway. Enjoy spaces such as Cabo de Gata Natural Park, which has some of the best beaches in Spain, including El Mónsul and Los Genoveses, to enjoy day and night – the area’s extraordinary visibility conditions have made it a unique destination for astrotourism. Visit the Tabernas Desert, where you can become an authentic cowboy (or cowgirl) for a day. And head over to Roquetas de Mar, an iconic tourist destination for the whole family, with its a water park, Santa Ana Castle, Playa de las Salinas beach (and a flea market held next door every Thursday) and a gastronomic offering focused on fresh produce from land and sea.

3 A Coruña
For 5,000 Avios each way and daily flights throughout August, A Coruña is one of those Atlantic destinations that you just can’t miss during the summer season. A historic Iberian Peninsula port, one of its hallmarks is the Tower of Hercules, a Roman lighthouse that is the oldest in the world still in operation. It was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2009. Round the tower are A Coruña’s many urban beaches, from the most famous, such as Playa de Riazor, to the quietest, sheltered by the winds of the ocean, including Playa de Las Lapas. A Coruña also boasts one of the most beautiful collections of architecture in Spain, with great examples of Modernism, and jewels such as the Galerías (traditional enclosed wooden balconies painted white) along Avenida de la Marina, a promenade that has earned the sobriquet of ‘Glass City’. The cuisine of A Coruña, featuring the best seafood on the Costa da Morte, is also second to none.

4 Faro
From 31 July to the end of September, Iberia flies to Faro from Tuesday to Sunday for only 5,000 Avios each way. Located in the Algarve region of southern Portugal, this town is one of the most beautiful in Spain’s neighbour and has excellent quality beaches. Ilha de Faro island, more than 5km long, is ideal for water sports. Playa de Quinta do Lago beach is surrounded by Ria Formosa Natural Park. And the beach of Isla Barreta, also known as Isla Deserta, is located on the only uninhabited island in Ria Formosa and can only be reached via boat. Faro also has sites of cultural interest, such as the Chapel of the Bones, an ossuary built in the 19th century with the bones of more than 1,000 Carmelite friars. The streets of Faro date back to mediaeval times and are filled with restaurants serving up mouth-watering traditional Algarve cuisine, such as Portuguese seafood cataplana.

5 Niza
With daily flights from Madrid from 5,000 Avios each way, this destination in the heart of the Côte d ‘Azur, just 20 kilometres from the border with Monaco and 30 kilometres from the Italian border, is one of the epicentres of luxury in the country north of the Pyrenees. Niza is located between the Mediterranean and the mountainous National Park of Mercantour, and its sophisticated promenade – a meeting point built in the 19th century by English nobles (including Queen Victoria) who chose the city as their holiday retreat – is home to one of the most interesting collections of boutique hotels and Art Decó buildings, all accompanied by the famous blue chairs facing the sea. An essential stop for art lovers is the Matisse Museum, which opens an exhibition in conjunction with the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona on 27 June. Fans of good food have it easy in Nice, as the city has eight restaurants awarded at least one Michelin star.
