Japan: autumn landscapes and towns seen on Instagram
Best known for its iconic cherry blossoms during the spring that suffuse parks and cities in pale pink, Japan is also a photogenic setting in autumn, when the same trees turn a vivid red. Tourists and passers-by never miss the chance to document it on the photo-sharing social network, as you can see in our picture gallery.

The Chureito pagoda offers lovely views of Mount Fuji. At year’s end, the scarlet landscape contrasts with the cold blues of the sky and the mountain, as though announcing the arrival of winter. @japancultureclub

A trip on board the Hakone Tozan train is like diving into forests radiant with colour. The route includes suspended bridges that increase the feeling of floating. @ishikun1021

Osaka Castle contrasts with the scarlet Japanese autumn. The bright and light colours of the palace are surrounded by a sea of fallen leaves. @hungryandhappy

The higanbana (red spider lily) flower may seem delicate, but in parks such as Kinchakuda it extends as far as the eye can see, creating a spectacular crimson carpet. @naoymt
