The campus of Madrid’s Complutense University will bid farewell to summer with an 18-hour (12 noon to 6am) festival of indie and rock music for all audiences. Dcode takes places on 7 September and its line-up includes both international (the Swedish group The Cardigans return to Spain after 13 years) and national talent. Buy your tickets for Dcode in Madrid and don’t forget that children under 10 pay nothing and also have their own space: Dcode Kids.

From 20 to 22 September, Seneffe Castle (less than an hour from Brussels) will be the site of Belgium’s last summer festival. A universe of pop, electronic and rock music plus a schedule of activities for all ages will bring 10,000 visitors to its 10th edition. Buy tickets for the Seneffe Festival in Belgium from €24.

On 21 and 22 September, you’ll be able to visit more than 800 of London’s most emblematic buildings at Open House London and take part in any of its family activities: free tours, talks, photography competitions and workshops, all directed by professional architects. From 12 to 15 September, 49 art galleries and other cultural spaces celebrate Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend. The event is organised by the ArteMadrid gallery owners’ association and includes exhibitions, parties and parallel events, such as visits to private collections. This year, Barcelona Gallery Weekend turns five and will take place from 10 to 13 October – Barcelona Gallery Weekend 2016, Los corredores, Robert Limón/Image by Roberto Ruiz

The Vuelta a España is one of the world’s most important cycling events. From 24 August to 15 September, the 21 stages across Spain will give cycling lovers the chance to personally cheer on their favourites in cities such as Alicante, Bilbao, Oviedo and Madrid. Look at the map of the routes and choose which stage you want to join this year.

Twelve teams will compete for the Basketball World Cup from 10 to 15 September. This year, it is taking place in China and, besides battling for the cup, the two top European teams will have direct access to the 2020 Olympic Games.
